After the appearance of a potential breeding pair in the former breeding habitat in 1998 and 1999 the bee-eaters started their second repopulation with four breeding pairs in the former breeding habitat near Maisbach in the year 2000. Since then the birds have been appearing annually in a steadily growing population and have also been spreading to a second breeding habitat in a former marl pit near the Schatzgrundhof since 2005. In course of the proceeding expansion of the Nussloch Quarry since 2000 many new potential nesting sites have accrued in the southern and eastern part of the quarry. Yet there were no verified recordings of breeding bee-eaters within the quarry until 2012. Today the Nussloch quarry plays an important role for the bee-eater population around Wiesloch.
